An extensive two-month journey circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled in the wake of the fatal incident of an older lady who was left behind by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The ship left without her and returned several hours later after the crew became aware the woman was missing.

A major rescue mission discovered her remains the next day.

Officials are looking into the incident, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also published an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" banning any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its return.

The liner initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the elderly woman's passing. The remote island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who typically pay tens of thousands of currency to join the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of trekking or underwater exploration.

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the vessel left the location after an organised excursion without my parent".

In her statement, she described her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a affiliate of a hiking group.

"From the little facts we have been informed, it appears that there was a breakdown of responsibility and common sense," she stated.

She added that she desired the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have undertaken that might have preserved Mum's existence".
